Join us as we dive into Our 5 Favourites from the ultimate Disco diva, ahead of her headline performance at CC 2023…

1. I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango) (1981)

Arguably Grace Jones’s best song IOHO. ‘I’ve Seen That Face Before’ samples the Argentinian classic ‘Libertango’ by Astor Piazzolla. Jones implements some reggae arrangements, incorporating pop and French lyrics too, to take us on a nocturnal tango through Parisian nightlife. A stunningly good song.

2. Pull Up To The Bumper (1981)

One of her most infectious tracks, ‘Pull up to the Bumper’ was the third single off Grace Jones’s fifth studio album, the iconic ‘Nightclubbing’. The effortless fusion of styles, irresistible groove and catchy lyrics means the song still doesn’t feel dated, even forty years on. An upbeat R&B and Disco classic which will provide the perfect soundtrack to Friday night at CC 2023!

3. Slave To The Rhythm (1985)

Simply one of the most influential Dance tracks of all time. Originally intended for Frankie Goes To Hollywood to record, ‘Slave To The Rhythm’ found its forever home in the hands (and voice) of the incredible Grace Jones. This sumptuous track showcases a powerhouse of talent, as Grace’s vocal brings to life some brilliant songwriting. The flawless production and one of Jones’s best performances makes this song another favourite, and it’s not hard to see why. Pure genius.

4. La Vie en Rose (1977)

A notable mention in any Grace Jones playlist is her mesmerising rendition of Edith Piaf's 'La Vie En Rose'. This captivating cover takes the raw emotion of the original song and turns it into something far more romantic and powerful. Grace learnt to speak French fluently from living in Paris in the 1970s, and interchanges between French and English seamlessly throughout the track. Her dreamlike tone perfectly captures the glory of 'La Vie En Rose'.

5. Victor Should Have Been A Jazz musician (1986)

Last but not least, a smooth and stunning gem that may have got forgotten along the way. Grabbing your ears’ attention immediately with the opening lyric recounting a Nina Simone concert she had attended. What’s not to like?!

Ms. Jones continues to be the ultimate in cool and we are honoured to have her to headline the CC main stage on FRIDAY 9TH JUNE! 💕🎉
